Green Sky Thinking 2017 – Walking the Tranquil City

Walking the tranquil City: can travelling via urban tranquil areas increase our health and wellbeing in the City?  This was the question posed by the team at Tranquil City as it lead a group of walkers along the noise and traffic of the highly polluted Holloway road in north London.

The group explored the open space very close to the road and discussed how area of parkland can invigorate local areas and relieve the street of urban arteries.

Green Sky Thinking 2017 – The Hackathon

Green Sky Thinking consists of over fifty events that discussed best practice and sustainable building and design for built environment and property professionals.

The Hackthon event was held at Feilden Fowles Architects, Lambeth, SE1 and consisted of four teams discussing and submitting proposals for the redevelopment of Brent Cross south in North London.  During the afternoon the teams presented their proposals to a panel of judges and the winner declared.

GreenSky Thinking 2016

The Green Sky Thinking week 2016 featured many events focussing on how we best use energy in a sustainable manner.

I covered four events. The first was at Verde, London SW1 where Brookfield are in the process of converting an office block and reducing the buildings carbon footprint by up to fifty percent. http://www.brookfieldmultiplex.com/projects/verde-sw1-london-uk/

At the Kings Yard, London, E15 Engie provide heat and hot water to the buildings and apartments of the Olympic Village and other properties around The Queen Elizabeth ll Olympic Park.  http://www.cofely-gdfsuez.co.uk/solutions/district-energy/

In London’s Newman Street Derwent and Buro Happold’s presentation detailed how energy management can support both landlords and tenants.  http://www.burohappold.com

Any finally to 20 Fenchurch Street, the building known as The Walkie Talkie and the Hilson Moran presentation.  http://www.hilsonmoran.com/Case-studies/20-Fenchurch-Street,-London,-UK/

It was a brilliantly clear morning and I was looking forward to the post presentation coffee and pastries to capture some candid shots of the guests. However, we had been at the very top level for a short while when the fire alarm rang out. No, it wasn’t a fire drill but apparently the real thing. So thirty-five stories later we were all back on the ground having missed out on some great shots and breakfast.
